Consultation on the pilot European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing 06/12/2010
The European Commission is seeking the views of public and private organisations, companies and individual citizens on how Europe could scale up innovation to meet the challenges of the ageing population in Europe, and in particular on a pilot European Innovation Partnership (EIP) on active and healthy ageing. Between 2010 and 2030, the number of Europeans aged over 65 will rise by nearly 40%, posing huge challenges but also offering great opportunities for Europe's society and economy.

The high level conference on ‘Investing in wellbeing at work: addressing psychosocial risks at times of change’ addressed an economic phenomenon that is having a profound impact on mental health. Economic restructuring – the process whereby enterprises change size and structure – can leads to changes in working conditions, redeployment, work flexibilisation and unemployment. These in turn results in poorer mental health.
Mental Health Conference Discusses Ways to Promote Social Inclusion and Combat Stigma 08/11/2010
Today, the Commissioner for Health and Consumers, John Dalli, together with Portuguese Minister of Health, Ana Jorge, and Minister of Labour and Social Solidarity, Maria Helena André, open the high-level conference "Promoting Social Inclusion and Combating Stigma for better Mental Health and Well-being" in Lisbon. This 2-day conference, organised by the European Commission and the Portuguese Ministry of Health in cooperation with the Portuguese Ministry of Labour and Social Solidarity, is part of the European Pact for Health and Well-being and a key event in the calendar of the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion.

EU-level employers' and trade unions' organisations have signed guidelines to help tackle third-party violence and harassment at work. The guidelines were signed by the EU-level social partners in the healthcare, education, local and regional government, commerce and private security sectors.
Edinburgh Declaration on Mental Health Promotion 26/10/2010
The European Network for Workplace Health Promotion has made a new Declaration on mental health promotion at work. At its September meeting in Edinburgh, the ENWHP, which is made up of national representatives from the Member States and the EEA countries, declared their support for the cause of mental health promotion at work.
Commission Publishes Eurobarometer on Mental Health 25/10/2010
A poll released to mark World Mental Health Day reveals that during the 12 months preceding the survey, 15% of respondents across EU Member States sought professional help for psychological or emotional problems and 7% took antidepressants, mostly for depression or anxiety.
