It has been said that music is what feelings sound like. Music is powerful and yet soothing; it brings joy to the masses and provokes emotion. It is the goal of Global Research Studies to explore the realm of music and its effects upon society, world cultures, emotion and feelings from an interdisciplinary / multidisciplinary perspective. We wish to delve further into the study of music and lyrics upon youth and the changing feelings of people as they age in relation to their music choices. Can music start a revolution? Music, both instrumental and lyrical, can change lives.

This one day conference will look at child mental health; the role and provision of talking therapies and other evidence-based services within schools and communities, and the impact of a child’s family and school environment on their mental health.
Key themes to be explored will include school-based mental health initiatives; dealing with stigma; working across services; improving transition from child to adult services; defining, measuring and delivering outcomes; and how to achieve return on investment.

IASP's 26th World Congress will be held in Beijing from September 13th to 17th, 2011. This is the second time a world congress on suicide prevention will be been held in Asia—the first was in India in 2001—highlighting the important role of the Asia-Pacific in the global effort to reduce the toll of suicide. The relatively high rate of suicide in many countries in the region has stimulated researchers, clinicians and policy makers to develop and assess a range of innovative methods for addressing the problem of suicide. These efforts have drawn attention to the crucial role of culture in the understanding and prevention of suicide, so cultural perspectives has been selected as the central organizing theme for the congress.

The Carework Network is sponsoring a one-day conference to bring together researchers, policymakers and advocates involved in various domains of carework. The overall theme for the conference will be, “Care, Conflict and Resilience”.
Decent work is rare among today's global workforce of three billion. Due to health problems or disability, most workers will never reach the retirement age of their countries.
But times of crisis are also times of opportunity. We need a common vision to set our activities on a path of real progress. The international organizations WHO and the ILO are critically important in providing professional support to specialists and political decision-makers in the different parts of the world. The vision important to all of us, whether we are from the industrialized or developing parts of the world, is our well-being in terms of a safe and meaningful work life and life in general.
In occupational health and safety, we aim for solutions that support sustainable work and well-being worldwide. We trust that societies around the world can work together for better work, identify new visions of progress, and create new tools to help us work towards our goals.
2nd University Conference: Safe and Healthy University 19/09/2011

From the 19th to the 21st of September 2011 the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) together with the Statutory accident insurance of the Bundesland Niedersachsen and the University Information-System (HIS) organize the 2nd conference “Safe and healthy university”. It addresses executives from research, teaching and administration, OSH professionals, health promoters, staff and works councils and the accident insurance institutions.
All speeches will be translated simultaneously German-English.
