This two-day course will provide a basic background in theoretical concepts of mental health related stigma and discrimination and new developments in this field. We will also discuss research applications using real world examples. The first day will focus on concepts and measurement and will include lectures on: the measurement of stigma and discrimination, the social contact theory, self-stigma and help-seeking. During the second day, we will discuss anti-stigma campaigns, new perspectives on campaigns and evaluation, structural discrimination and human rights, global issues in stigma and discrimination research and the nature and purpose of service user research.
